HSA THOO LEI BACKGROUND

Hsa Thoo Lei stands as the second-largest migrant school in Mae Sot, Tak, Thailand. Established in 1999 by Mrs. Paw Ray, the current school director. its inception was driven by a noble aim: to provide basic education to children. Starting with just one teacher and 25 students, the school faced challenges due to limited resources and lack of proper infrastructure. Nonetheless, its primary mission remains steadfast: to serve the needs of children, particularly those from migrant worker families, orphanages, and internally displaced persons (IDP), aiming to eradicate illiteracy without discrimination based on race, caste, religion, or ethnicity. Currently, the school is sustained by various donors covering operational expenses.

As the student population grew, a boarding house was established in 2001, offering free food and accommodation, especially to children from underprivileged backgrounds, IDP families, and orphanages. The boarding house also emphasizes spiritual, moral, social, and cultural values, fostering character development, self-discipline, and self-esteem among the children. Regardless of their background, every child is treated with care and affection by the dedicated staff. Presently, xxxx children reside at the Hsa Thoo Lei Orphanage, while the school provides education to 953 students.
